根據 NME 網站報導, 拆夥了八年的 The Verve 在 BBC Radio One 的訪問中宣佈樂隊重組的消息, 他們即將重組並灌錄唱片, 並將於今年 11 月舉行數場現場表演並推出最新大碟.

看到這個消息實在太興奮!!! 如果不認識 The Verve, 請參考這頁內第三個 MV, 平時不聽英文歌的人, 相信應該也聽過那首歌.

1990 年在英格蘭北部 Wigen 成立的The Verve, 成員包括主音及結他手 Richard Ashcroft, 結他手 Nick McCabe, 低音結他手 Simon Jones 和鼓手 Peter Salisbury. 樂隊的發展道路一直都是充滿困難和崎嶇: 包括 Ashcroft 和 McCabe 鬧不和, 首兩張大碟銷量未如理想和毒品等問題. 在推出第二張大碟 A Northern Soul 後三個月, Ashcroft 宣佈樂隊(第一次)解散. 雖然 The Verve 在數星期後決定重組, 當時 McCabe 不願歸隊, 所以在 1996 至 1999 年其間加入了 Simon Tong 來頂替曾經離隊的 Nick McCabe.

Nick McCabe 在 1996 年歸隊並開始灌錄第三張大碟 Urban Hymns, 樂隊再次經歷”迷幻”的錄音過程, 終於在 1997 年 9 月推出 Urban Hymns 大碟

1998 年是 The Verve 的音樂事業和成就達到頂鋒的一年: 他們同時間囊括了 Brits Awards 的最佳監製, 最佳英國組合和最佳大碟三個大獎. 亦在 NME Awards 中, 他們的 Bitter Sweet Symphony 獲得 best music video 和 best single, The Verve 也得到 best band 的殊榮. 大碟 The Urban Hymns 在世界各地都錄得多白金的銷量, 而在英國本土更獲得超過三百萬張的驚人銷量. Bitter Sweet Symphony, The Drugs Don’t Work, Lucky Man 和 Sonnet 這四首 Singles 也達到 UK Top 10 的佳績. 當時他們樂隊的音樂會或他們有份表演的 music festival 門票也很快沽清. (筆者有幸在 Leeds 舉行的 V98 Festival 看過他們的精彩演出). 以他們當時的受歡迎程度, 要說 The Verve 是當時 the best band of the world 一點也不過份.

可惜他們在事業的頂峰是決定解散樂隊, 各人也有各自的發展. 較矚目的是 Ashcroft 推出了兩張個人專輯, Simon Tong 加入了 Damon Albarn 的 The Good, the Bad and the Queen… 但始終都不及 The Verve 時期所帶來的震撼, 所以今次以 The Verve 名義的重組絕對是值得期待. 雖然要超越 The Urban Hymns 的佳績可能機會比較渺茫, 但正如他們所講 – 重組是為了音樂的喜悅.

繼續是我近日最關心的 Radiohead 大碟消息

一眾樂迷望穿秋水期待的 Radiohead 第七張大碟終於有確實的出版日期 – 2007 年 10 月 10 日, 這日期比一般人的預期早了很多.
而今次 Radiohead 作出了革命式的重大改動, 就是大碟暫時只能在In Rainbows 大碟官方網站預訂和購買, 而且歌曲都將會是從官方網站下載. 更另人意外的, 就是下載歌曲的售價到現在都只是一個 ” ? “
根據NME的報導, Radiohead 打算任由樂迷自己決定下載歌曲的售價!?! 聽起來這個收費方法可能只會吸引到很多人以 1 英磅的最低價來購買這大碟, 但這樣其實不但能做到宣傳的效果, 有收入總比被人免費非法下載好.

現在送上的是新碟即將收錄的歌曲 Reckoner, 這首歌用上了大量的結他, 是近年 Radiohead 少見的

Radiohead 早前已經向外公報了他們已經完成了最新大碟的灌錄, 餘下的就是找唱片來把它發行.
當大家在期待最新大碟之際, 他們在官方 blog Dead Air Space 中設下了一些令人摸不著頭腦的謎題…

圖案很有趣, 但他們的排列應該是有意思的, 但究竟是甚麼? 在 Dead Air Space 那裡還有多幾個像這樣的圖案

在另一個 Radiohead 的 fan site At Ease Web 中有人看得出這些是一種叫 Worm Buffet Code 的東西, 每個圖案是代表著不同的英文字母

原理就是像鐵路所用的 Semaphore Flag Signaling System 一樣

‘Myths Of The Near Future’ triumphs

Klaxons has won the 2007 Nationwide Mercury Music Prize.

‘Myths Of The Near Future’ was crowned as the best album from this year’s 12-strong shortlist at the ceremony in London this evening.

The band – tearful from their surprise at winning – took the stage and the £20,000 winners check before delivering a chaotic thank you speech.

“This really is too much declared,” James Righton, while bandmate Jamie Reynolds added “It was the worst two hours of our sitting there not knowing if we’d won. It means so much.”

He added: “Mercury is about pushing music forward and that’s what we’ve done. It great that people have recognised

Righton also explained they had been motivated by last year’s winners Arctic Monkeys.

“A year ago we were in the studio making this album and we were sitting in the studio watching Arctic Monkeys win this,” he said. “We saw that and thought we have to make a new album.”

Speaking just after leaving the stage Simon Taylor explained the band were “stunned” to have won as they paid tribute to fellow nominees Bat For Lashes and Amy Winehouse.

“None of us can really comprehend what has happened this year,” concluded Righton. “We started as a joke and now here we are!”

Klaxons speak after winning Mercury Music Prize
‘We’re in shock’ band tell NME.COM

Klaxons have spoken to NME.COM after winning the Nationwide Mercury Music Prize tonight (September 4).

The band scooped the award for their debut album ‘Myths Of the Near Future’ and admitted they were surprised to win.

“I’ve never felt this way in my life. This is shock beyond any kind of shock I’ve ever experienced,” James Righton told NME.COM. “We hoped we’d win it but we really thought Amy Winehouse or Bat For Lashes would win it.

“To win this is beyond and above any expectation we ever had. We thought we made a really strong record and we wanted to win. But realistically we heard everyone talking, we heard what people were saying and we didn’t think we would win. But we kept that belief… This is just ridiculous.”

除了頂頂大名的 Green Day 之外, 紅透半邊天的加拿大 Punk Rock 小公主 Avril Lavigne 原來對於”參考”別人作品也有她的一套

日前看見消息指她最新大碟的首張 single – Girlfriend, 被一隊樂隊 The Rubinoos 控告這歌是抄自他們 70 年代的一首叫 “I want to be your boyfriend” 的歌曲, Avril 回應她從來沒聽過這首歌.

在 youtube 找到這段片:

聽起來兩首歌的風格和旋律都很不同, 但到了 Chorus 一句 “Hey hey you you I want to be your boyfriend / girlfriend”是十分相似, 而另外加插 1965 年 Rolling Stones 的 “Get off my cloud”, 算一算年份似乎才是 Hey hey you you 的鼻祖

官司尚未平息, 但另外又找到另一首同樣出自她最新大碟的 “I don’t have to try”, intro 一段和 2003 年 Peaches 的一首叫 “I’m the kinda” 的歌曲亦是極度相似

Avril Lavigne 近年頻頻到香港獻唱, 莫非是順道來拜香港的”樂壇影印機”為師? XDDD

原來 Avril Lavigne 新碟還有一首抄歌 “Hot”… 這次是挪威籍的 Marion Raven 的 Break You

每年夏天都係一眾樂迷最期待o既季節, 今年比較觸目o既有 Glastonbury, V Festival, Carling Weekend, T in the park, Download 等等

2006 年停辦一年o既 Glastonbury 將於今年六月二十二至二十四日再次舉行, 但至今仍未有官方 line up, 但根據其他音樂雜誌 / 網站所知, 今年三大 headliners 包括英倫最炙手可熱o既 Arctic Monkeys, 美國當紅隊伍 The Killers 加上 60’s 經典組合 The Who

其餘 performing acts 包括:

來自 Supporting act 之一, Dirty Pretty Things 的 Bang Bang you’re dead

Radiohead 繼 2003 年 6 月推出 Hail to the thief 之後, 最新大碟已經接近完成階段. 他們已經完成了和 EMI 所簽訂六張唱片的合約, 在無死期和合約約束之下, 樂隊成員形容這灌錄工作是既自由亦令人恐懼. 為了增加化學作用和挑戰, 這次他們改用了新的監製 Mark ‘Spike’ Stent. 樂隊主音 Thom Yorke在一次訪問中談及新大碟中的歌詞概念:

“It’s about that anonymous fear thing, sitting in traffic, thinking, ‘I’m sure I’m supposed to be doing something else’.
Interestingly enough it’s similar to ‘OK Computer’ in a way. It’s much more terrifying. But ‘OK Computer’ was terrifying too -some of the lyrics were.”

雖然他們尚未公報最新大碟的發售日期和細節, 樂隊慣用的監製 Nigel Godrich 最近在 Radiohead 官方網頁 Dead Air Space 上發表了一段短片, remix 了最新大碟的幾首歌曲片段

90 年代英倫 Trip Hop 隊伍 Portishead 將於今年十二月主持 All Tomorrow’s Parties 音樂會, 闊別十年的 Bristol 三人組合將於此音樂會中發表十年來未有灌錄大碟的新作, 而且會介紹他們喜愛和對他們有影響力的樂隊, 根據 Portishead 在 myspace 的 about me 資料 “About Portishead - portishead formed in 1991 and are writing their third studio album. 似乎今年的 All Tomorrow’s Parties 將會是樂迷優先試聽 Portishead 第三張大碟歌曲的地方

Portishead are to be the next curators and will be performing exclusively at All Tomorrow’s Parties, Nightmare Before Christmas in December 2007.

They will be playing their first full live set featuring new material in nearly 10 years at the event which is set for December 7, 8 & 9 at Butlins Holiday Camp at Minehead.

“We have always loved the All Tomorrow’s Parties set up and we’re happy our first shows will be there. It’s great to have the opportunity to introduce bands we love or have influenced us. We’ve chosen a diverse collection of artists to play with us and we’re really looking forward to it”…
